Presidents Message – April 2021

Happy 75th Birthday ISA New Orleans!  Last year, the International Society of Automation celebrated its 75th year, and today our section is now 75 years old as well.  The ISA New Orleans Section Charter became effective on April 11, 1946.  Horace Arthur Thompson, Jr. (1917 – 2010) a Chemical Engineer from Tulane University, World War II veteran, and founder of Thompson Equipment Company (TECO) was our first section president.  Our section played a part in the growth of ISA as a whole providing District and Division officers, distinguished honors and awards winners, Fellows, and three Society Presidents (David Bishop, Bob Baillet, and Hugh Roser).  We have a strong history supporting our automation community, and strive to continue to support the mission of ISA to create a better world through automation.

We kicked off our 2021 program last month with a presentation on ISA 71.04 and the increasing effects of corrosive gases on critical electronics since the implementation of RoHS.  We had over 40 attend our online presentation on Zoom.  If you missed it, we have the presentation on-demand here including a copy of the presentation available for download in pdf format.

This month we are pleased to have another timely presentation topic lined up.  David Hansen, Director of Functional Safety for SIS SILverstone, will discuss the practical use of digital transformation applied to process and functional safety.  The presentation will be live streamed at noon on April 20th.  Please click here to learn more about the presentation and to register to attend online.

I am happy to announce our new Sponsorship Program for 2021.  In honor of our 75th anniversary, we are offering a special “Diamond” sponsorship for $75.  Companies who take advantage of this special sponsorship opportunity will lock in at $75 per year for as long as they wish to renew.  This is a savings over our normal $150 per year sponsorship rate.  Sponsors will have their logo, company information, and link posted on our website.  Sponsors are also provided with priority opportunities to present at section meetings and events and receive discounts on special events and offerings.  Details on sponsorship can be found here.

Lastly, if you are not a member of ISA, please consider joining.  A full list of benefits can be found here.
