Presidents Message – July 2019

ISA New Orleans Section,

Thank you to Frank Ruiz and Tim LaFranca with Parker Hannifin for a wonderful lunch and technical presentation this past Tuesday.  Frank presented several real world examples of pressure control techniques used in sample-handling systems for gas analyzers.  His command of the subject matter and practical examples and guidance on proper design based on the application were truly impressive.  If you missed the presentation or want to review it again, you can view it at the following link – https://youtu.be/u7EgcHBsrBQ

Our next meeting will be a tour of the NOLA Fab Lab at Delgado on August 13th.  The Fab Lab concept emerged from MIT’s Center for Bits & Atoms and its mission is to provide access to the tools, knowledge and the financial means to educate, innovate and invent using technology and digital fabrication.  It is a STEM outreach program for K-12 and adults.  The Fab Lab at Delgado was made possible through a generous grant by Chevron and features a laser cutter, 3D printer, vinyl cutter, CNC router and a design lab with computers loaded with the latest software tools to harness the capabilities of the lab equipment.  You can learn more about this tour and register to attend here.

Thanks again to our existing section sponsors and new sponsors.  Your contributions to the section help us deliver content to our membership and the technical and engineering communities at large.  Visit our sponsor page here.  Our calendar for monthly meeting topics is now open for September 2019 to August 2020.  If you would like to present at a monthly meeting or have an idea or request for a topic, please reach out to me via email to discuss.

Best regards,
Dean Bickerton
