Presidents Message – February 2018

ISA New Orleans Section Members and Prospective Members,

We kicked off the New Year earlier this month with our Town Hall Meeting and update from the ISA Fall Leader’s Conference.  Our agenda for the remainder of the year is is coming together nicely with many sponsors and friends of the Section offering up technical presentations for upcoming meetings.

Next Tuesday, Gaby Koren with Indegy will be presenting a whitepaper on the Application of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.  We first explored the origins and an overview of the NIST Framework back in 2016 at one of our technical meetings.  In the Spring of that same year we held a seminar on the core funtions of NIST namely Identify, Detect, Protect, Respond, and Recover presented by Accenture, Cisco, Chevron, and others.  Gaby will provide an update of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and will discuss best practices to improve the security and resilience of critical infrastructure.  For more information on this meeting and to register please visit https://neworleansisa.org/2018/01/23/february-2018-section-meeting/

On March 13th Author and historian, John Laurence Busch, will visit our Section with a historical, technical, and management prospective on the first transatlantic steamship from his book, “STEAM COFFIN:  Captain Moses Rogers and The Steamship Savannah Break the Barrier”.  Mr. Busch has presented to many technical organizations in many parts of the World.  We are fortunate to have him come speak to our Section.  Information on this meeting is posted on our website at https://neworleansisa.org/2018/01/10/march-2018-section-meeting/

We have additional meeting topics lining up for the rest of the year including:

  • An Engineering Ethics Presentation and Panel hosted by LAPELS
  • A presentation on active ISA standards by Nicholas Sands, VP of ISA Standards and Practices
  • And presentations by our sponsors on pertinent topics for our industries

To recap our Town Hall meeting, please reach out to me or any on our leadership team with ideas on how ISA can provide value to you personally or professionally.

Best regards,
Dean Bickerton
