Please consider joining us at any or all of the events above. You do not have to be a member of ISA to attend our events, just select what is of interest to you, and share with your colleagues. We are very excited about the level of informative programs we have been able to offer this past year, but we want and need to do more. Please reach out to me if you have any ideas for content you would like presented at an upcoming meeting to help you with your job in the automation sector. If you would like to share your knowledge with the community be it technology, applications, standards, recommended practices, etc., please let me know. We are ready to fill out our calendar from July 2018 onward. Don’t be shy.
Our next event is this coming Tuesday, April 24th, at MS Benbow and Associates over lunch. Joe Driver and William Sulzer with Champion Technology Services will present an overview of the ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Certificate Programs. Both received their certifications in Cybersecurity from ISA and will present on the value it provides them and their clients as they approach Cybersecurity programs and applications. The following weekend, on Sunday April 29, will be the 3rd Annual Family Fun Eat and Run event to benefit the local Louisiana Children’s Museums including the brand new museum under construction at City Park. We participate in this event as part of an umbrella organization called PIPE, Petroleum Industry Promoting Education. We raise about $50,000 per year for the Children’s Museums with this event alone. it is a fun morning with free food, drinks, and prizes for the children. The food quality rivals that of those you find in our industry golf events. In fact, the food sponsors are companies from the oil and gas industry you may already know. The run is a 5K Run/Walk with a Kid’s Fun Run to follow. Registration is just $35 for adults, $10 for children from 11 to 17, and is free for children 10 and under. This event is run by NOLA Running. You can find out more on our site – https://neworleansisa.org/2018/03/24/pipe-2018-family-fun-eat-and-run/. You can also register directly on NOLA Running – https://raceroster.com/events/2018/16865/family-fun-eat-run.
On May 8, we will host our annual Ethics Meeting for those interested in the topic or in need of the required 1 hour PDH for Ethics. We had a few register for that event already. Please register and put it on your calendar if you still need your Ethics PDH for 2018. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/engineering-ethics-may-2018-section-meeting-tickets-37736380530.
In June, we are very fortunate to have Nick Sands visit our section to present at our monthly meeting and to teach a one day ISA course the following day. Nick Sands is the Chair for ISA Standards. He came to our Honors and Awards banquet a few years ago as our keynote speaker and gave a great presentation on the importance of standards. He will join us again on June 12 to give is an update on the most current and active standards groups in ISA today. These standards cover many important areas such as SCADA, Human Machine Interface, Alarm Management, and Cybersecurity to name a few. Nick will then teach a full, one-day course on Alarm Management the next day, June 13. This will be an opportunity to earn 8 PDHs while learning about a topic critical to the safe and efficient operation of processes and equipment. To register for either or both events, please use the links below:
